Fans of Legend of the Seeker Take Their Battle to YouTube
Viewers of Legend of the Seeker are not done protesting the show’s cancellation. They have mounted massive protests to wallpaper important TV executives and cable networks with pleas to carry the show. The New Zealand-based series enjoyed 2 seasons with over 40 episodes but a recession-wracked broadcaster, the Tribune Station Group, decided not to renew for season three. ABC Studios, which owns the show, gave two months looking to find a network for Legend of the Seeker. Many fans rallied their support for ABC Studios on Websites such as the Save The Seeker Blog.
Seeker viewers did not stop with email and snailmail. Fan groups have published advertising in Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, created a torrent of supportive videos. Intrepid fans all over the the planet joined together to produce this video depicting their efforts to win a reprieve for the show:
Despite the enterprising projects from Seeker fans there seem to be few responses from the show’s producers. TV industry insiders like Kelly Clarkson and Terry Goodkind have expressed their support on behalf of the Save Our Seeker movement. The frustrated fans themselves conducted successful Twitter Takeovers to propel slogans like “Save The Seeker” and “Happy Mother Confessor Day” onto the top trending list Twitter users see. Save The Seeker projects embraced delivering postcards, reproductions of advertisements, and printouts of Richard’s necklace to Disney and ABC Studios.
A recent project is a proposal to nominate Craig Horner for Person of the Year at Time, involving fans to distribute mock covers of Time, Forbes, Elle, and Cosmopolitan featuring stars from Legend of the Seeker. Although the Person of the Year campaign may lack any chance to bear fruit proponents say it is designed to generate attention for the Seeker fan community.
New ideas are announced all week on Websites like the Save Our Seeker website. The flood of attention has required some recipients to tell the fan community to stop contacting them. Several respondents claim to have no part in deciding the show’s fate. Considering all the fans have done the Save Our Seeker movement has not yet produced results. Yet now the Seeker fans are taking it to the next level. What do you think they will do next?
